Elsie McLean

Graveside services for Elise McLean, 93 of Flint, are set for 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery with Chaplain Elzie Johnson officiating under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home, Tyler.
Mrs. McLean passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 4, 2010 with loved ones by her side. She was born March 6, 1916 in Chandler to the late William Lawrence and Lucy Jane Murphy Lawrence. She has lived in Brownsboro for more than 60 years, worked for Curtis Mathis as a cabinet maker and was a member of Rock Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bailey McLean; 3 brothers, Wayne, Herman and Donald Lawrence; 4 sisters, Lois Lawrence, Thelma Grant, Vera Belcher and Vernell Chandler; and a grandson, Dex Bailey McLean.
Survivors include 2 sons, Charles Wayne McLean, and wife Chanda and Kenneth Ray McLean all of Flint; Grandsons, Bryan McLean of Tyler, Mark McLean of Houston, and Dustin McLean,Regan Ray both of Tyler; granddaughters, Karen McLean, Stephanie Luther, Stacie Jeter, Chasity Coleman, all of Tyler, and Shirley McLean of California. Also 18 dearly loved great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for their support over the past year.


 
 
Mary Pauline Malcolm
March 3, 2010

Services for Mary Pauline Malcolm, 79 of Tyler, will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Art Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.
Pauline went to meet her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in Tyler. She was born August 19, 1930 in Gilmer to the late Paul Stanley and Alma Lorene Spann Johnson. She has lived in Tyler for 60 years. She received her Masters in Education from East Texas State University and taught at Chapel Hill High School for over 32 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Bloodsworth, and a step-son, Doug Malcolm.
Survivors are her husband of 27 years, William P. “Bill” Malcolm of Tyler; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Karen Bloodsworth of Tyler; daughter and son-in-law Mary Gail and Randy Smith of Tyler; step-sons and wives Scott and Nancy Malcolm of Austin, and Brian and Karen Malcolm of Whitehouse; stepdaughter and husband, Rebecca and Ret. Col. Dan Higgins of Montana; a brother, Doyle Johnson of Gilmer; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Sean Smith, Ronnie Germany, Falk Alicke, Erin Schenk, Dewayne Bethea and J.D. Nantz.

Diane Virginia Kennedy
March 1, 2010

A “Celebration of Life” service for Diane Virginia Kennedy, 52, of Tyler, is set for 10:00 a.m. Friday at Burks Walker Tippit Chapel, with The Rev. Fenton Kovic officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.
Miss Kennedy died Monday, March 1, 2010 in Tyler following a long illness.
She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, October 1, 1957 and was the youngest of four children of Edwin Coe Kennedy and Virginia Badran Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her mother.
Born with Down’s syndrome, Diane was the joy and center of attention of the entire family as she achieved many accomplishments which were thought impossible when she was born. Diane attended St. Louis Special Education School and upon graduation worked for Opportunities in Tyler. While growing up, Diane often traveled with her parents to such vacation destinations as Hawaii, the Caribbean Islands, and Disneyworld. Diane remained in the Kennedy household until she moved into a group home for mentally challenged citizens as an adult.
While growing up, Diane was an ardent participant in Special Olympics competition and an eager participant each year at Camp Heyday. She was the inspiration for her parents founding of the Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC) in Tyler/Smith County and Opportunity in Tyler (Goodwill). In 2004, the ARC honored the Kennedy family by naming the organization’s camp for special needs adults at Timberline Camp and conference Center in Lindale, Texas as “Camp Kennedy.”
Survivors include her father, Edwin C. Kennedy and step-mother Reatha Kennedy of Tyler; one brother, Richard B. Kennedy and wife Teresa of Snellville, Georgia; two sisters, Martha J. Lindblom and husband Ray, and Nancy K. Gee and husband Jimmy, all of Tyler; one niece, Jennifer Gillentine and husband Jason of Flint; and three nephews, Robert Kennedy of Tucker, Georgia, Chris Kennedy and wife Jeanine of Loganville, Georgia and Andy Gee and wife Rachel of Whitehouse.
Pallbearers will be Andy Gee, Jason Gillentine, Ron Nowell, Robert Badran Kennedy and Christopher Kennedy.
Family visitation will be held 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Nona Hunt Hicks
March 1, 2010

Nona Hicks, 84 of Tyler, was born October 3, 1925 in Nederland to her late parents, Herschiel and Katherine Hunt. She died Monday, March 1, 2010 in Tyler, from complications resulting from a fall.
Nona’s early years thru high school were spent in Laredo, where her dad was editor of the Laredo Times. Then off to Baylor University at the age of 16, she met her husband to be, in Freshman English class, 17 year old Weldon Hicks from Rienzi, Miss. They were married May 4, 1945. She graduated from BU in 1946, taught public school, plus VBS and Sunday school, and was known as a “Master Teacher”. She received her Masters Degree in Education from East Texas State University at Commerce. She was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church and the Women’s Bible Class.
Survivors are her husband of 64 years, Weldon Hicks; daughters, Camilla Schneider of Ft. Worth, Lynne Moore of LaPorte and Cynthia Carter of Tyler; 2 sisters, Patricia Hutchinson of Copperas Cove and Camilla Cole of LaFayette, La.; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Green Acres Baptist Church with Dr. David Dykes and Dr. Darryle Dunks officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Nona Hicks Academic Scholarship Fund at Baylor University in Waco.


 
 
Helen L. Riley
February 27, 2010

Graveside services for Helen Riley, age 92 of Tyler was held Tuesday at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery with Rev. Tim Carr Officiating under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home. Mrs. Riley died February 27, 2010 in a Whitehouse nursing home.
She was born September 19, 1917 in Caddo County Oklahoma to the late Oscar and Jane Carr. She was co-owner of Riley’s Drapery Company in Oklahoma City and retired for J. C. Pennys as an Interior Decorator. She also was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Riley is preceded in death by her husband Cleve L. Riley, one brother and two sisters.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Tom and Barbara Riley of Tyler; grandchildren Jay Riley and wife Jennifer of Tyler and Reed Riley of Austin; one sister Betty Staudt of Rogers Arkansas and 4 great grandchildren.


 
 
Hazel E. Meyer
February 26, 2010

Funeral services for Hazel E. Meyer, 90, Tyler, are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Bascom United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Waldman officiating. Family will receive friends at 3:00 p.m. until service time at the church.
Burial will be 4:00 p.m. Monday at Turner cemetery near Marvell, Arkansas under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors, Tyler.
Hazel was born October 31, 1919 in Postelle, Ar. To the late Phillip and Bertha Ellenburg. She passed away peacefully on February 26, 2010 in Tyler.
She was a store owner, retired Postmaster in Postelle, Ar., and a welder at Futerecraft Industries in California where she made parts for the space shuttle Columbia. She was also a member of Bascom United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Alvarean Erck, Nell Carlton, Geneva Meyer, Pauline Kennon, Marjorie Burns, Estelle Manning; and brothers, Lowell, Edd, Luke, Marvin, Drick and Carse Ellenburg.
She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Mike Randall ; brother, Shelby Ellenburg; caregiver, Rochelle Tate; and many nieces and nephews.

Roma Wheat

Services for Roma Wheat, 85 of Tyler are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday in Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Joe Hancock officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit.
Mrs. Wheat, went to be with her Lord and Saviour February 22. She was born June 26, 1924 in Hope, Ark. to the late Jessie and Emma Johnson.
She was a Homemaker and member of University Christian Church.
Mrs. Wheat was preceded in death by two husbands Finis G. Wheat and Clark B. Morris.
She is survived by a son Rick Wheat of Lindale and a daughter Pat Borges of New Orleans, as well as five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday at the Funeral Home from 6-7 p.m.


 
 
Joyce T. Dudek

Joyce Theresa Dudek, 63, entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 22, 2010 in Tyler, Texas.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 26 at 1pm at Jackson’s Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Home chapel in Tyler with Father Tim Kelly officiating.

Born on September 23, 1946 and raised in Ludlow, MA, Joyce moved to Tyler, TX with her family in 1977. She was an avid gardener, motorcycle enthusiast, and loving grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul St.Onge of Ludlow, MA.

Joyce leaves behind her loving family including her husband Eugene; daughter, Simone and husband Randy of Tyler, Tx; son, Paul and husband Christopher of Bushkill, PA; mother, Lillian St.Onge of Wilbraham, MA; sisters, Carol Pollitt and husband William of Tyler, TX, Paulette Bergeron of Whitehouse, TX, and Lisa Tenczar and husband John of Chicopee, MA; granddaughters, Jordan Nicole, Roni Elizabeth and Kensington Grace; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 25, from 5-7pm at the funeral home.

Memorial services for Dwayne Glover, 75 of Tyler, will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 28th at Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church, Mt. Pleasant. Local arrangements are with Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.
Mr. Glover died Friday, Feb. 19th in Whitehouse. He was born March 13, 1934 in Roxton. Living in Tyler 35 years, he previously lived in Midland, Dallas and Mt. Vernon. He had a pest control service and was a Methodist.
Survivors are 2 sons, Brad and Kyle Glover; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and David Whitmore; a brother, Bill Glover; a sister, Bobbie Sewell; and 5 grandchildren.

Services for Mattie Bob McBurney, 80 of Tyler, are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Rev. Sherman Mayfield officiating. Burial will be at Concord Cemetery near Chandler.
Mrs. McBurney died on Thursday, February 18, 2010 in Tyler. She was born March 14, 1929 in Chandler to the late Robert and Martha Pettis McCurley. She was a homemaker and member of Good Samaritan Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Stowe McBurney.
Survivors are 2 sons, Turner Joe Morgan of Chandler and Robert Lee McBurney of Tyler; 2 daughters, Jeanie Wade of Whitehouse and Fredia Renee Sperling of Tyler; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Stanley McCurley, David McCurley, Don McCurley, Eldon McCurley, Rick McCurley and Rick Wright.

Patsy Lee Campbell

Graveside services for Patsy Lee Campbell, 91 of Tyler, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Rose Hill Cemetery with Chaplain Kenn Somerville officiating, under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home, Tyler. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m. Monday evening.
Mrs. Campbell went to meet her Lord, in her Heavenly home, on Wednesday, February 17th, 2010. She was born October 20, 1918 in Chireno to the late Earl Andrew Childers and Lela Evelan Sikes Childers. She has resided in Tyler most all her life. She graduated from T.W.U., was a teacher and long time member of Marvin United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Campbell in 2006.
Mr. and Mrs. Campbell have numerous friends in the Tyler area, as well as many other places. They were very strong in their Church and were involved in many charitable organizations.
She leaves behind her loving family, a son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Marsha Campbell of Lindale; daughters and a son-in-law, Debby Campbell of Tyler, and Amanda and Daryl Davis of Dallas; a sister, Lucille Porter of Terrell; 3 grandchildren, Lauren, Chase and Drew; and 3 step-grandchildren, April, Brandon and Todd.


 
 

Flay Don Stallings
February 15, 2010

Visitation to celebrate Flay’s life and heavenly birthday will be held Wednesday, February 17, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home. The service will be held on Thursday, February 18 in the funeral home chapel at 1:30 p.m. with burial to follow at Memorial Park.

Flay was born in Tyler, October 18, 1939, to the late Bryant Anderson Stallings and Cecil Moncrief Stallings. He married Carolyn “Sue” Brown, March 30, 1968. They shared 42 loving years together. Their marriage was founded on God’s abounding love and grace.

Flay was a man who loved people and never met a stranger he couldn’t call friend after a few words. He was a man of many principles. Flay’s journey in this world was to live out Joshua 24:15, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Flay was faithful in his marriage, a very living father and grandfather, a man of his word, who believed God’s Word, and was a friend to all.

Flay was preceded in death by both parents; brothers, Bryant Wayne, Virgil Ralph, and Glenn Maurice, and sister, Freda Ann. He was welcomed to his heavenly home, February 15, 2010, by his Lord and Savior joining many friends and family.

Left to carry on his legacy is his loving wife, Sue Stallings of New Chapel Hill; daughters and spouses, Lara and Bill Routon of Tyler and Tina and Lance Moore of Troup; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace and Will Routon, and Victoria and Hannah Moore.

Officiating is Elwood Stetson. Pallbearers are Flay’s brothers in Christ, Dr. Ronald N. Smith, David Leonard, Bobby Tate, Jan Wait, Ray Copeland, and Tom Yost.

Flay would want our mourning to be brief and for all to be reminded of Romans 8:28 “We know that ALL things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

Rev. Allen Benjamin Emerson
February 13, 2010

Funeral services for Rev. Allen Benjamin Emerson, age 85 of Whitehouse, will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Chapel with Rev. Sherman Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery.
Rev. Emerson died February 13, 2010 in a Whitehouse nursing home.
He was born in Iowa, September 14, 1924 to the late Harold B. and Ada Emerson .The family moved to Texas, where Allen graduated from Tyler High school in 1942. He attended Tyler Junior College and East Texas Baptist University. He went to Princeton University on a Scholarship where he studied theology.
He pastored Baptist Churches in Texas, Arkansas, Missouri and California. At the time of passing he was interim Pastor of Community Baptist Church at Swinneytown.
He was an ordained Baptist Minister, a home builder, a school teacher and a truck driver. He also was staunch follower of Billy Graham Crusade.
Rev. Emerson was a member of T.A.S.C.A. and loved square dancing with his wife Anne. They traveled the U.S.A. and Canada in a R. V. and then they cruised the World.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Damon, and son Michael.
Rev. Emerson is survived by his wife Anne, a son and daughter by a previous marriage, a sister Jean Howard and special nephew Raymond Howard, and Anne’s children Earl Swift, John Swift and Kathleen Swift Fain.
Pallbearers will be John Swift, Earl Swift, Raymond Howard and Mark Howard.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Community Baptist church.
The Family will receive friend 5 – 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.


 
 
Leila Ruth Reese
February 13, 2010

A celebration of the life of Leila Ruth Campbell Reese, age 97, will be held at First Christian Church of Tyler on Tuesday, at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Chris Pulliam officiating. Graveside services will follow at Gum Springs Cemetery east of Longview at 4:00 p.m. under the direction of Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Directors of Tyler. Residing for a short time at Summer Meadows in Longview, Mrs. Reese peacefully left this life on February 13, 2010.
The youngest of four daughters of Thomas Duncan Campbell, Jr. and Lella Brank Barnett Campbell, Leila was born on September 18, 1912 in the White Oak community near Longview. She was a member of a pioneer East Texas family. The grand-daughter of Republic of Texas Congressman, Stephen Slade Barnett, and early Longview mayor, Thomas Duncan Campbell, and the niece of former Governor Thomas Mitchell Campbell and Judge James N. Campbell, she was an avid family historian.
A graduate of Longview High School at age sixteen, she married her high school sweetheart, Louis Herman Reese, in 1931. Leila attended the American Institute of Banking and worked at the former First National Bank of Longview from 1933 to 1950, by which time she had become the head teller. During World War II, her husband served for more than three years in the U. S. Army in Italy and North Africa. Throughout the war, Leila and Herman corresponded daily, and close to 1,000 letters from her soldier still remain with her family, a lasting tribute to more than 65 years of marriage.
Following the birth of their daughter Ellen in 1950, Leila dedicated herself to her home and family. Moving to Tyler in 1955, Leila became a homemaker, master gardener, and volunteer, particularly with First Christian Church of Tyler, where she and Herman were a vital part of an active community of love and faith. She served as Fidelis Class president, CWF Secretary, and as a deacon. A long-time member of the old Tyler Camellia Club, Texas and American Camellia Societies, Leila and Herman grew and freely shared hundreds of varieties of camellias and even served as national judges. Leila was also a charter member of the East Texas Genealogical Society, a legacy member of Preservation Longview, and a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Preceded in death by her husband, Louis Herman Reese, three infant children, and by her three sisters, Nelwyn Knighton, Rosebud Pannell, and Lottye Cherry, she is survived by her daughter and son-in –law Ellen and Jay Gordon of Longview, grand-daughter Leah Gordon of Jacksonville, grandson Reese Gordon of Dallas, nephew David Debenport of Longview, and niece Jane Bingham of Walden, Colorado.
Pallbearers will be Reese Gordon, David Debenport, Keith Mize, Dart Leigh, James White, and Thomas White. Robert Wheeless will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
If desired, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Tyler, First United Methodist Church of Longview, the Alzheimers Association, or Heart’s Way Hospice of Longview.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler.

Funeral services for Betty Hanna, 57, Tyler, are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday at New Life Baptist Church with Bro. Walter Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Williams Cemetery under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors.
Pallbearers will be Jeffery Littrell, Timothy Martin, Wesley Martin, Don Bevel, Jr., Chad Willingham, and Heath Willingham.
Betty was born October 20, 1952 and passed away February 12, 2010. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her father, Johnnie Hanna, Sr.; and sisters, Alice Hanna and Johnnie Elizabeth Hanna.
Survivors include her children and spouses, Barney Westberry, Virginia and Bobby Singletary, Jeanetta Phillips and Buddy Singletary; mother, Cleo Palmer; brothers and spouses, Johnnie Jr. and Cindy Hanna, Thomas and Margaret Hanna; sisters, Lucy Aydelott and husband, Jimmy, Tina Hanna, Susan Hanna; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Peggy Joyce Warren
February 11, 2010

Graveside services for Peggy Joyce Warren, 77, Tyler, are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Whitehouse Cemetery with Rev. Mike Ford officiating, under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors.
Peggy was born July 2, 1932 to Vernon “Preacher” and Lucille Warren and passed away peacefully, February 11, 2010. She was a life-long Tyler resident and a homemaker. She was a wonderful Mother and Nanny and will be forever in our hearts. She was blessed to have a close and loving family and many dear life-long friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Denman Warren; and a brother, Frank Warren.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Vicki Warren, Tony and Corrie Warren; brother, Joe Warren; sister, Pat McCarley; grandchildren, Blake Warren and wife Kaci, and Spencer Warren; great grandchildren, Makena, Jordyn and Brody Warren.

Leo Eldon Jones, Jr.
February 11, 2010

Memorial services for Leo Eldon Jones, Jr., 65, of Tyler will be conducted Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Tyler, Downtown Campus. The burial service will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Oakland cemetery on Highway 80 West in Terrell with Mike Wiebe officiating.

Visitation time with family will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler.

The memorial service will be led by Rev. Scott Wiley and Dr. Paul Powell. Pallbearers will be John Dumas, Tim Falls, Eitel Hahn, Tom Holland, Gene Kirkpatrick, Keith McInnis, Wilbur McKinney, Dean Reading, and Glenn Malone of the Prospectors Bible Study Class of First Baptist Church.

Mr. Jones died Thursday evening, February 11, 2010, in a one-truck accident on icy roads near Many, Louisiana. He was born April 18, 1944, in Jacksonville, Texas to Leo Eldon and Jerolene Prestriedge Jones, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Jones graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1962 and Tyler Junior College in 1964. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1967 from The University of Texas in Austin.

Mr. Jones loved to tell the story of how he met his future wife, Billie Pat (Patty) Porter, by getting her name from the front of her Bible at Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin and then calling her for a Coke date. They were married September 21, 1968, in Terrell.

In 1967, Mr. Jones joined his father at Leo Jones Insulating Company, founded in 1947, and he was managing the company at the time of his death.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife Patty and by his daughter, Karen Elizabeth Jones McKinney and her husband Cliff and granddaughters Katie (5) and Megan (2) of Little Rock, Arkansas, and by his son, David Andrew Jones of Tyler. He also is survived by his sister, Donna Jones Wiebe and her husband Mike of Centennial, Colorado, and by his brother-in-law, John Brooks Porter and wife Carolyn of Terrell. Other survivors are three nieces, a nephew, and four great-nephews and a great-niece.

Mr. Jones was a deacon at First Baptist Church, Tyler, where he was known for helping children feel welcome and loved at church by handing them ice cream coupons from his pockets. Memorials for him may be made to First Baptist Church Preschool and Children’s ministries, 301 West Ferguson Street, Tyler, Texas 75701, and also to the scholarship fund of East Texas Baptist University, 1209 North Grove, Marshall, Texas 75670 (attn: office of Financial Aid).

Three days after Mr. Jone’s death, his son-in-law, Cliff McKinney, reflected on Mr. Jone’s life of love and service and said, “Some people have lived fully, and others have just lived.” Mr. Jones lived fully, serving others in hopes he could help them know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16.

Memorial services for Dr. Helen Graham will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at Marvin United Methodist Church with Dr. John Robbins and Rev. Allison Thompson officiating. Burial will preceded Memorial service, at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Rose Cemetery under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home, Sunday 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.. Pallbearers will be Dr. Steve Wilson, George Rook, Jay Law, A. D. Clark III, Dr. Joe Bates and Bill Brandt.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Seekers Class of Marvin United Methodist Church.
Dr. Graham died at Hospice Homeplace February 10, 2010. She was born in Houston, on October 26, 1940 to the late Clark Braden and Martha Ethel Bradford Graham. She spent her early years growing up in the country near Alba and Emory. She graduated from high school in Houston. She then received her LVN training at Memorial Baptist Hospital, so she could work her way through college at University of Texas, Austin, and medical school at U. T. Southwest in Dallas. After her internship at the U. S. Navy in San Diego (1969-1970). She returned to Dallas and did her residency in pathology at Parkland Memorial Hospital. After residency she was an assistant professor in surgical theology at U. T. Southwestern. In 1983, Dr. Graham opened her private practice of Adult and Adolescent medicine in Tyler. She left private practice in 2001 to become the medical director of Hospice of East Texas and became board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
After retirement from active practice in December 2007, because of recurrent pancreatic cancer, Dr. Graham enjoyed volunteering at Bethesda Health Clinic and Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary. She also enjoyed mission trips to Ecuador with her friend Becky Hernandez and traveling in the USA and Europe with her friend and caregiver Patricia Watson.
Dr. Graham is survived by her brothers and their wives; James and Becky Graham of Pine Mills, Kelly and Trela Graham of Spring, Ronnie and Kris Graham of Houston, Ray and Jeanine Graham of Frankston and sister in law Reta Graham. Many nieces and nephews and their families and her beloved stray dogs and cats.
Dr. Graham thanks all who cared for her at both Mother Frances and East Texas Medical Center. Special thanks go to Dr. Duane Andrews, Dr. Ariel Lee, Dr. James Kolker and Dr. Gary Goodfried. Thanks also to Dr. Venhaus and all the people at Copeland Road Animal Hospital for caring for her pets when she could not. Most of all thanks go to her wonderful friends and caregivers Patricia and Stan Watson and her Marvin Church family.

Mark was born December 27, 1954 and passed away February 9, 2010.
He was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church and retired from Kelly Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna P. Carroll, and a brother, Rodney M. Carroll
Survivors include his children, Jeffrey Carroll and Jessica Ogden; father, Louie Carroll; sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Younes Khamir; nephews, Christopher & Daniel Khamir; and nieces, Nadia & Lindsey Khamir.

Services for Mrs. Hilma Louise O’Neal, 87 of Tyler, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Ford officiating. Burial will be at Harris Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. O’Neal went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 7th in Mineola. She was born May 3, 1922 in Hawkins. She met and married her husband in 1940 and moved to Tyler where she has lived most of her life. She was a homemaker, housewife, and floral designer, and attended Owentown Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James O’Neal and by a granddaughter, Kimberly O’Neal Carpenter.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Linda O’Neal of Winnsboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Dan Barr of Georgetown; 4 grandchildren, Danny O’Neal of Whitehouse, Kelley Bell of Temple, Steve Barr of Dallas and Catherine Marziotti of Houston; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Pauline Baldwin
February 4, 2010

Pauline Baldwin was born on June 6, 1914 and passed away, Thursday February 4, 2010 at Hospice of East Texas Homeplace.
She was born in Lindale to Walter Brown and Lucinda James Brown who preceded her in death. She married Shirley Thomas Baldwin in May of 1929 in Lindale. They moved to Tyler in 1942 and spent 50 years together before his death in 1979. She was also preceded in death by a brother Walter ”Bud” Brown, two sisters Mary Lee Alvey and Annie Belle Vickers. Pauline retired from Brookshire Grocery Company at the age of 78. She loved her time with the company and made lasting friendships with some of her co-workers at the main office. She remained friends with many of them until the time of her death.
She was a woman of faith, loved her Lord and her family and was a wonderful role model for her children and grandchildren and blessed to have spent quality time with each of them. She was a long time member of Southern Oaks Baptist Church in Tyler.
Mrs. Baldwin is survived by two sons, Paul (Martha) Baldwin, Ross (Marilyn) Baldwin, two daughters; Martha (Les) Sulser and Peggy McFarland all of Tyler. She is also survived by 12 Grandchildren; Mike Baldwin of Des Plaines, IL., Kelly Baldwin of Pasadena, Darren Baldwin of Richmond, VA., Marianne Hays of Tyler, Dan Sulser of Denison, Karen Harris of Burleson, Toni Wright of Lindale, Richard McFarland of Marshall, Brad McFarland of Hideaway Lake, April Lindskog and Carrie Baldwin both of Tyler and Holli Boulware of Alabama. 27 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great Great Grandchildren and a niece and
several nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Elzie Johnson officiating.A private graveside will follow. Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be Friday, 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Beam went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 4, 2010 in Tyler. She was born November 3, 1921 in Cunningham, Texas to the late John Carson Wilson and Vinnie Steele Wilson. She worked in the nursing service office for Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Chandler. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Beam.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Delbert Hensley of Richardson; granddaughters, Daphne Campbell and husband, Michael of Tyler, and Sarah Owen and husband, Chase of Flint; great-grandchildren, Ashley Campbell, Alex Crow, Addison Campbell, Austin Owen and Hunter Owen; brother Billy John Lee of Dallas; and a double-nephew, Commer E. Beam and his wife, Pat of Bullard.
Pallbearers will be Keith Beam, Chase Owen, Austin Owen, Bernie Beam, Joe Bryant Beam, Bruce Beam, Michael Campbell and Randy Lee.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Kolton Beam.

He recently moved to Tyler, but previously lived in Chandler, and Seaside, Cal. He was an auto mechanic, and was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ellsworth Asbury.

Mrs. Adams went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 26th in Ft. Worth. She was born September 11, 1927 in Lindale to the late Sabe and Onie Landrum Chapman. She was preceded in death by husbands, Hubert Vaught and Bill Adams, two brothers and three sisters. She lived in Tyler for 35 years, was a homemaker and was a Baptist.
Survivors include 3 sons and, Larry and Cindy Vaught and Ron and Joyce Vaught, and Billy Adams all of Ft. Worth; a sister and brother-in-law, Theola Thedford Yaden and Senka of Tyler; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a special niece, Virginia Kennedy.

Burial will follow at Whitehouse Cemetery under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home. Mr. Moose died January 19, 2010 at his residence.
He was born November 16, 1948 in Tyler to Troy William Moose and the late Tommy Nell Spier Moose. He owned and operated of Rodger’s Auto Glass and Upholstery business in Tyler for many years and was a member of the St. John’s Masonic lodge and The Sharon Shine. Mr. Moose was also an active member of the Cross Brand Cowboy Church.
He is preceded in death by his mother and daughter Rebecca Ann Moose.
Survivors are his wife of 43 years, Helen Moose of Whitehouse, daughters and son-in-law, Deborah Jean and Dwain Clark of Whitehouse, and Reneé Wiley of Bivins, brother and sister-in-law Eddy and Jacquelyn Moose of Whitehouse and father,, Troy William Moose of Tyler, step grandchildren, Kenneth Brian Jones, and Jerrika Weaver and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Thompson, died January 16th in Arizona. He was born August 12, 1945 in Tyler to the late Carmen and Wilford Thompson. He has lived in Tyler all his life.

Mr. Fout died January 15, 2010 after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 12, 1931 in Elizabeth, Arkansas to the late Homer and Jessie Fout. He is a retired truck driver and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers and sister Bonnie Grizzell.
Mr. Fout is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Irene Fout; daughters and son- in-law, Linda and Jim Nelson, and Becky Ann Parker, all of Tyler; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Ale Fout of Cypress, and Michael and Carrie Fout of Brownsboro; sister Sue Carpenter of Tyler, brother John Fout of Kilgore,11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Patricia was born January 11, 1934 in Smith County to Starley and Josephine Hand, and passed away January 11, 2010.
She was a member of Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church and was a retired bookkeeper with Meals On Wheels.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Dean Armstrong of Anna, Robert and Barbara Armstrong of Waxahachie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Starley & Faye Hand Jr., Ted and Mary Hand, all of Tyler; sisters and brother-in-law, Sue Payne of Tyler, Rosemary & Buddy Dawsey of Georgetown; and one grandchild.


 
 
Lamern Layton Bailey

Lamern Bailey, a lifelong resident of Tyler passed away January 11, 2010 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. A.C. Layton, her husband, Sam Bailey and her son Dan Bailey, all of Tyler. She is survived by her son, Dean Bailey of Dallas, her son Layton Bailey of Austin, and her daughter Ann Bailey, also of Austin. She is also survived by five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a large extended family.

Born January 7, 1922, Lamern was an active, life-long member of the West Erwin Church of Christ where her father served as an elder. Her interests included acting, travel and the arts. After raising her four children, she returned to college to complete her studies and earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Texas at Tyler at the age of 61.

Lamern’s greatest trait was her strength of character, unmistakably displayed over time…His grace was sufficient for her. Kind and compassionate, remarkably patient, unassuming and submissive, she will undoubtedly hear “Friend, move up to a better place.”

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 3:30pm at the Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Home in Tyler. Barbara passed away peacefully January 11, 2010 in Tyler. She was born November 11, 1935 in Jefferson County to the late Frank Harris & Annabelle Taylor Harris. She worked for Palestine ISD and Red River Trucking Company and was a member of the Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Jimmy Parmer and a brother, Roy Cunniff.

Services for Mr. Mack Malone, Jr. 79 of Tyler are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday at St Francis Episcopal Church with The Reverand Suzanne Tubbs officiating. Burial will be in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery with full Military Honors under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.
Mr. Malone, died January 8 in a local hospital. He was born September 2, 1930 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late L.D. and Isabell Malone.
He was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church. He served in the Marine Corp and retired after 20 years service.
He is survived by sons Mark Malone of Troup and Ray Blevins of Tyler; daughter Sherry Pratt of Tyler; brother Daniel Malone of Conroe; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Katie passed away January 7, 2010 in Tyler. She was born November 3, 1949 and was a nurse for Medical Center Hospital.

Zelma Wilson

Services for Zelma Wilson, 83, of Tyler, are set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010, at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Bryce and Rev. Gaylon Taylor assisting. Burial will be at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors, Tyler.
Mrs. Wilson went to be with the Lord, Thursday, January 7, 2010, in Tyler after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born March 17, 1926 in Crocket to the late Samuel N. and Mary Myrtle Land Mayrant. She had lived in Tyler the last 27 years, having also lived in Lawton, Oklahoma, Wichita Falls and Raymondville.
She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and loving grandmother. A devout Christian, Zelma volunteered much of her time to her church and was a diligent prayer warrior. She was a charter member of Southside Church of God in Lawton, Oklahoma and Southpoint Church of God in Whitehouse, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeeRoy Wilson; her brothers, Samuel Jr. and Portland; and her sisters, Oneida Stapp and Eulene Milwee.
Survivors are her daughter, Barbara Harrell of Kinston, Alabama; son, Larry Wilson of Lawton, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Tommy Harrell Jr., Lee Harrell, Jennifer Maughon, Shane Wilson, Nicole Tucker, and Lori Cooper; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother, Lowell Mayrant of Huntsville, Texas and her sister, Earlene Brock of Lufkin, Texas.
Pallbearers are Gary Mayrant, Bill Fogg, Perry Stapp, Lance Morrow, Harry Stainback and R.B. Glasscock.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 15th.

Dorothy Putnam
January 6, 2010

Dorothy Wallace Putnam passed away at the age of 82 on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 in Tyler, TX. A memorial service was held at St. Francis Episcopal Church on Saturday, January 9th in Tyler. A graveside service, officiated by the Right Reverend Bob Hibbs, will be held at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. under direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home, Tyler. A reception will be held at Trinity Towers Potpourri Room after the service.
She was born in Dallas, on July 26, 1927, to William Farrier Wallace and Mary Ethel Pope Wallace. The family moved to Corpus Christi in 1935. After graduating from Corpus Christi High School in 1943, Dorothy attended Mary Baldwin College and the University of Texas where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and was a Bluebonnet Belle nominiee. After marriage she moved to Corpus Christi with her two children. She was an insurance agent and part owner of Wallace Insurance Agency. Dorothy was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, the Order of de Pineda, Tri Delta Alumnae, and the Junior League, serving as Treasurer. She was especially proud of the years she spent as a volunteer doing interviews for adoptions. She moved to Ft. Worth in 1972, then back to Corpus Christi in 1982 and to Tyler in 1998.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother William Farrier Wallace, Jr. Survivors include her daughter Virginia Shull (Gene) of Tyler and son Kip Putnam (Kathy) of Corpus Christi; four grandchildren Jennifer Walsh (Kevin) and Collin Shull of Tyler; Julie Putnam and Kip Putnam II of Corpus Christi; and one great grandchild, Katie Putnam of Corpus Christi. She is also survived by one brother, Robert Pope Wallace (Nancy) of San Antonio, niece Anne Morris and her children of Houston, nephew David Wallace (Laura) and their children of San Antonio.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church in Tyler, or to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, or Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi.


 
 
Steve Jones

Services for Stephens Charles “Steve” Jones, 66 of Tyler, are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010 in the Chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Rev. Sherman Mayfield and Rev. Bennie Portwood officiating. Burial will be at Bascom Cemetery.
Steve went to be with his Lord on Monday, January 4, 2010 in Tyler. He was born November 29, 1943 in Tyler to the late Gus “Bud” Jones and Almarene Wilkinson Jones. He has lived all his life in Tyler, attended Tyler Junior College, was a member of the Sharon Shrine Temple and was a Baptist. Steve has been a barber for over 50 years and the owner of Steve’s Barber Shop on E. Front Street for over 4 decades.
Survivors are his wife, Dorenda Jones of Tyler; sons, Stephens Charles “Chuck” and Trish Jones, Jr. of Chandler and Jason Paul and Catherine Jones of Whitehouse; a daughter, Karen Deree and John Parker of Little Elm, TX.; and 4 grandchildren, Caden Jones, Caleb, Amber and Kaylee Parker.
Pallbearers are Ron Anderson, Jimmy Daughtry, Johnny Vick, Larry Harwood, Corkey Deel, Robert Williams, Larry Childress, Gary Medlock.
Honorary pallbearers are Sherrill Sessions, John Ward, Bob Wheeler, Lyndon Dike, George Cooper, Bruce Schamback, Billy Smith, Johnathan Davis, David Ferrell, Ron Clark, Fred Hendrix, John Jones, Carroll Green, Tommy Graham and David Lowry.

Persey Thedford
January 3, 2010

Persey Thedford, 86 of Tyler, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 3, 2010. Persey was born February 8, 1923 in Noonday, Tx. to Bruce and Addie Thedford. He served in the Italian, Southern France and Normandy invasions. During World War II he received five bronze stars while serving in the European Theater from June ’44 until Oct. ’45.

He retired from a lifetime business, Persey & Joe’s Counter Tops. He loved watching his grandchildren participate in their various sporting activities, and never missed a game. He was a deacon in the Baptist church for over 50 years.

Persey is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Juanita Funderburg Thedford. Other survivors include his two daughters, Valerie and husband Paul T. Fanning, and Ginger and husband Wayne McIntyre, four grandchildren, Brandon McIntyre and wife Julie, and Brittney McIntyre and Katie Fanning and three great grandchildren, Trinity Fanning Shelby Lynn McIntyre, and Madeline Lily Fanning, and lots of nieces and nephews, and friends.

Persey’s greatest love was for his Lord, Jesus Christ. He was a devout man who stood for whatever was honorable and just, and lived with old time Christian morals in a modern world. He was a true inspiration to his family and all who knew him.

His entire family is most appreciative of Douglas Coltman, MD, and Trinity Mother Frances Health System for providing excellent and compassionate care for him in his last years.

A celebration of Persey’s life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Dr. John H. Beard and Rev. Dale Perry officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Lucille Ruthrauff
January 2, 2010

Funeral services for Lucille Ruthrauff, age 86 of Denton, Formerly of Tyler will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Chapel with Rev. Allison Thompson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home. Mrs. Ruthrauff died January 2, 2010.
She was born November 9, 1923 in Coffeyville, Kansas to the late Sampson and India Hayes. She lived in Tyler for more than 50 years and retired from J.C. Penney. Her passion was sewing, and enjoyed making clothes for her family. She also enjoyed Needle work and crocheting. Mrs. Ruthrauff has been a member of St Paul’s United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was a member of the choir and the Wonderful Wednesday after school programs and helped prepare meals for church functions and served her Lord and church in many other ways. She also was a volunteer for Al-Anon for over 35 years.
Mrs. Ruthrauff was preceded in death by husband Robert Jackson Ruthrauff and son, Allan Thomas Ruthrauff.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Don Peden of Denton; Grandchildren, Eric Peden and wife Angela, Lee Brown and husband Bryan, Trey Peden; great grandchildren, Morgan, Douglas, Taylor and Allison.
