Morris_PhotoServices for Margaret Shamburger Morris, age 93, formerly of Tyler, will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2012 at First Christian Church in Tyler with Rev. Kayla Coffee-Prose officiating and interment following at Rose Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Director’s.

Margaret passed away peacefully on February 10, 2012, at Masonic Village nursing home in Sewickley, PA.   She was born in Tyler, TX, on August 25, 1918, to the late Matthew Shuford and Margaret Ann Shamburger of Pine Springs.  She married Sidney M. Morris in 1943 and they enjoyed 45 years of loving marriage before he passed away in 1988.     

She is survived by her son Sidney M. Morris, Jr., and wife Joan of Pittsburgh, PA; son William H. Morris and wife Tracy of Moraga, CA; her grandchildren, Randall W. Stone of Rochester, NY, and Patricia B. Stone of San Diego, CA; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Margaret was a graduate of Tyler High School, Tyler Junior College, and Iowa State University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture.  She and her late brother Maurice Shamburger worked together to landscape many fine homes in Tyler as well as the First Christian Church, Mother Frances Hospital, and Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home.

She was a life-long member of the First Christian Church of Tyler, where she was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and also served as an elder.  She was an active member of the East Texas Porcelain Art Guild and won several awards for her hand-painted china.  Other organizations of which she was a former member include the American Association of University Women and the Desk and Derrick Club.

Pallbearers will be Randall Stone and Jerry Shamburger. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Hardy, Rick McCommon, Larry McCommon and Tim McCommon.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the funeral home.

If desired, memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Tyler, 4202 S. Broadway, Tyler, TX 75701.
