Graveside services for Roy W. Brookshire, 99, Melissa, formerly of Tyler are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2012 at Tyler Memorial Park under the direction of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors. Dudley Brookshire will be officiating.
Roy was born March 3, 1912 in Mt. Pleasant. He married Mossie Estella Goolsby in 1939 and celebrated 66 years of marriage before she preceded him in death. He worked for St. Louis & Southwestern Railroad in Tyler prior to joining the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in various European countries during WW ll. After the war he returned to the railroad and later began a career with the United States Postal Service in Tyler where he retired after 31 years.
He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He also became a mason and was a member for 61 years.
In addition to his beloved wife, Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Fannie Brookshire, brothers, Clifton, Dean ,Grady, Annis and Garland; and a sister, Grace Verner.
He is survived by his loving family, including his son, Jimmie and wife, Vicki Brookshire of Melissa; three adored granddaughters and their families, Jennifer Smith and husband, Court and great- grandchildren; Connor and Ainsley of Frisco; Amanda Brookshire of Melissa, and Jamye Henry and husband, Rick and great-grandchildren Paxton and Drake of Frisco; one sister, Bera Wagner of Kansas City, KS.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday , February 9, 2012 at the funeral home.
Memorials for Mr. Brookshire may be made to the Special Olympics of Texas in tribute to Amanda Brookshire at www.specialolympicstexas.org.
